The First Harvest Crates are Delivered

Over the last several days we have been busy delivering Harvest Crates to new “Self- Harvesting” Exchange members. It has been wonderful seeing so many beautiful trees and getting to speak with home owners to discuss their abundant fruit trees. Just this week, one of our Exchange member will be donating some extra “Persian” Oranges from his tree. Also, known as  Seville Oranges they, are prized for their tart flavor and are ideal in making marmalades and marinades.

Being January we are getting several Pounds of Meyer lemons and Kumquats too. Meyer lemons are a highbred species of lemon; they are a cross between a traditional lemon and orange. Meyer Lemons grow very well here in North Florida and are a very popular ornamental tree. 

Even self harvester need help from time to time. Especially if your tree is having an especially great year. Do not hesitate to call or email to arrange for gleaning help on an as needed basis. The Leon Fruit and Nut Exchange is getting started in the middle of citrus season in North Florida and I was delighted to help an Exchange Member and her adorable son, harvest their Meyer Lemon and kumquat trees the day their harvest crate was delivered.  We  were able to fill two Harvest Crates with a 30 pounds of Meyer lemons and kumquats which will be delivered this afternoon to people in need.
