The Leon Fruit and Nut exchange will host seasonal harvesting events that bring people together to pick fruit that would otherwise go to waste, and make it available to people in need.
There are several ways you can get involved and help support the Exchange:
- Register a Fruit or Nut Tree in the Exchange: Trees will be added to the exchange through an online registry where land owners and individuals can add fruit and nut trees whose produce they wish to be gleaned and donated to exchange. Homeowners and community members that participate will be provided with opportunities to develop the skills needed to nurture and preserve their own fruit trees, and to help care for fruit trees in their community. - Sign up to help in one of our seasonal gleaning events: Our gleaning events are open to anyone, and are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. This Exchange is designed to serve low income and food insecure populations. Volunteers from programs and organizations that serve this audience will be able to keep a portion of what they glean. The schedule is posted here at the beginning of each month.
- Host a Benefit Harvest for the Leon Fruit and Nut Exchange: These harvesting events are created for corporate/university/faith groups that want to provide a valuable volunteer service to the community, engage in a meaningful group activity, and support the unique work of Leon Fruit and Nut Exchange with a matching contribution.
- Be a Leon Fruit and Nut Exchange Committee Member: We are looking of individuals who are interested in sharing their ideas, time and energy to help complete the goals and mission of the LFNE.
